Bora Bora Inspired Bedroom Moodboard

When my sister-in-law showed me some pictures she sent me, from a friend of hers, of Bora Bora, she wanted my help to see what kind of look we could come up with for her bedroom to look like a relaxing place on Bora Bora....sooooo like any good sister-in-law would do in return, I made a Moodboard for her.  :)

Just in case you can't read where everything is from in the moodboard.
  • Curtains & hot pink pillow - Target
  • Blue & white pillows - Marshall's
  • Bed frame - Pottery Barn
  • End Table & Dresser - Ikea
  • Braided Bamboo Rug - PerfectlyHomeRugs.com
  • Turquoise & Hot Pink Candle Holders - lunabazaar.com
  • Turquoise Vase - It's from an international website when I did a Google search for Turquoise vases
  • Bedding - West Elm
  • Lanterns - Pier 1
  • Floors - sorry I just did a Google search for Cherry Laminate Flooring
  • Paint color - Valspar Beach House

Here are some of my inspiration pictures to give her some ideas.  I know they are not all bedrooms, but I was trying to show her all the colors together.

This is a Candice Olsen room.  LOVE!!!  I love how bright and beachy feeling this room is feeling to me.  It's light and crisp.  Great place to relax.

She wants white bedding with turquoise walls & hot pink pops.  She wants to be able to recreate the water color in Bora Bora.  The hot pink pops of color are found in the flowers on Bora Bora.  She loves Peonies, so we hope to find some gorgeous hot pink faux ones.

Here you can see the darker floors with white curtains and the blues & greens she would love to incorporate into the room.

I thought this room was pretty inspiring from the Turquoise on the walls, to the white furniture, to the white bedding & curtains, to even the hot pink pop of color on the night stand.

This room brings in the hot pink pop of color even more.  Love it!!!

Welcome to Bora Bora.  O.M.G. this place is gorgeous!!!  Makes me want to go on vacation right now.

My SIL (sister-in-law) already has some lanterns for her bedroom redo, so this picture caught my eye.  Look how calming and romantic these lanterns have made the area.  And that turquoise water right there.  I think I'm relaxing already....oh wait this inspiration is for my SIL & BIL.  ;)
 sunsurfer.tumblr.com

These thatch huts of sorts made me think of Bamboo or Sisal rugs for the room.  So I thought I would throw a braided bamboo rug into the moodboard.  Plus this picture has the green palm fronds she loves, the blue sky & water.  Even the inside of the huts have the wood that she wants on her floors.  I love when inspiration comes from nature like this.

This room makes me want to quit my job, jump on a plane and just live in Bora Bora and be relaxed every day of my life.  A girl and dream right?  I think this picture says it all by itself....relaxation.

Love these gorgeous hardwood floors.

OMG I love this gorgeous picture.  Blue skies, turquoise waters and that gorgeous wood dock.  Now that is what relaxing is all about right there.

There goes that blue & green color scheme again.

This has to be the perfect color Turquoise I have ever seen and it's all natural.  Thank you Mother Nature.

Hello relaxation!!!

Crystal clear water, the bluest skies, and pops of hot pink.  Even nature has it's own pops of color.

Well that is it.  I hope you are as relaxed as I am right now.  And of course inspired in some way.  I need to make one of these pictures my wallpaper on my computer so I can stay relaxed.  ;)

Anyone ever go to Bora Bora or another gorgeous island like this?  We have been to Hawaii and  St. Thomas and they are gorgeous as well.

Thanks for stopping by everyone! Have a great day! I would love to hear your comments, so please leave one if you want. I love sharing and inspiring others, but I also love feed back and sharing of others ideas and thoughts. :)

Laundry Room Progress

I realized I haven't updated you guys on my Laundry Room.  We have made some additions since the last time I blogged about it.  You can check out the last post here.

We installed the trim work around the doors and installed the base moulding.  But we haven't caulked or painted the trim work yet.  So who remembers where the furnace & hot water heater is?

Oh there they are!!!  These are just temporary curtains until we get to sewing the fabric that we bought for the curtains for this area.  The new curtains won't have the tab top, so it will cover the pipes even more and also just be about 1/2 to 1 inch off the ground once we hang the new ones.  These are a little short for the area.  But it has been really nice to have these temporary curtains in place until we sew the the fabric for the new ones.

Here is my new gorgeous area rug for in front of the washer/dryer.  It has all the right colors for the room.  Check out this post to see the fabric we bought for the curtains.

You can check out the trim work on this side of the room.  The interior door trim and the base moulding.

Like I said earlier we still need to caulk and paint all the trim work, so it doesn't look like the same whites yet.

We even installed more storage.  It's not that we really need more storage since we have the Ikea piece next to the washer/dryer and we have the Ikea wall cabinets on the other side of the room, but I did need to get the laundry baskets off the floor and I wanted the laundry detergents off of the dryer so we can keep that cleared for folder or anything else we might need it for.  We bought white shelves from Ikea.  EKBY JARPEN/EKBY BJÄRNUM.  You can cut this shelves to your desired length and then the brackets at the end cover up the raw cut edges. We had to be flexible from what you can see because the water pipes & the dryer vent are all on this wall.  I still have to figure out how I can hide all of this in the corner.  Not very pretty looking right now.

There is Oxiclean in the small container & the bin is being used for my stain remover products right now.

I love these laundry baskets that I found at HomeGoods.  Me & HomeGoods are BFFs.  I bought a larger and a smaller one so that they could fit inside of each other and still be able to fit on the shelf together.

Now for the lighting in this room.  Previously it was just a light bulb sticking out of the ceiling.  It's hard because this is our lower level in our Hi-Ranch and we don't have 8ft ceilings.  So we had to be creative with what we picked.  We didn't want to spend the money on recessed lighting right now, so this was the next best thing for our room.  We found this set at Ikea.  I think Ikea is my 2nd BFF.  We always seem to find such great options in this store.  RADIUM Spotlight System by Ikea.  You can bend this system anyway you need it or keep it straight if need be.  For $40, it was the perfect choice for our Laundry Room.  Since we do have the new door with a big window in it, for the most part we only use the lights when it's dark outside.  So we don't have to use them too often.  They actually have a white set that is similar to this one, but it was more expensive and we didn't like the look of the as much.  Plus the brush nickel goes with the cabinet hardware on the free standing cabinet and the wall cabinets, so it worked for the room.

Well hopefully the next update I have for you in a few weeks, will be that the Laundry Room is finished, but we will see.  This room gets really hot in the summer because it only has a vent near the furnace and that is it for ventilation.  So we might have to wait until the Fall to finish painting.  We don't have a screen door on the exterior door yet, but we do want to install one.  That will take place in the Fall I think.  This way we can get a cross breeze from the Family Room.
So does anyone have any ideas that I can use to hide the pipes & the dryer vent?  I would love to hear them.  I have one idea, but I'm not sure that it is going to work out the way I want it to.  Has anyone hid something in their home so that it looks nicer and you don't have to look at the ugliness behind it?  Would love to hear the details.  Post a link in the comments area if you like.

The Laundry Room from the beginning.  Check it out here, here, and here.
Thanks for stopping by everyone! Have a great day! I would love to hear your comments, so please leave one if you want. I love sharing and inspiring others, but I also love feed back and sharing of others ideas and thoughts. :)

Mood Board for Our Sunroom

After posting about my Sunroom tour the other day {you can check out the details on our Sunroom here}, I really wanted to put together a Mood Board for the room.  I'm not sure if I will buy these exact pieces and I'm not sure if we will be able to get to this project completed this year, but it's always fun to be able to look at the things you would like to have and maybe find a better deal down the road anyway.  ;)   I just love looking at the eye candy in the mean time.

So in this Mood Board, most everything is from Pier 1.  The ceramic stool & the flooring are not.  I love what Pier 1 carries, but I don't always love their prices.  So I'm going to keep an eye on this stuff and maybe if I hit the right sale at the right time, I can get what I want for less.  Or we might try to buy wicker furniture off of Craigslist or from a garage sale and spray paint it the color that we want.  These are just all ideas now, a little bit of inspiration for the room.  I saw most of this in person already.  I was in Pier 1 last week.  I love looking.....well I bought a platter holder for my counter top.....but I really wanted to buy all of this stuff.  ;)

OK, now let's look at the details of this Mood Board.
  • First let's check out the great color that would be on the walls.  The walls will be wainscoting, hopefully PVC wainscoting.  We have seen it at Home Depot already, but I haven't looked to see if they carry it at Lowe's or not.  It was about $42 per pack.  Anyway onto the color on the walls,  it's Valspar Evening Stroll.  It's blue/green in color.  It might not be the color I go with, but I do like it.
  • The settee & chair are hand-woven out of banana bark and mahogany. They seem very well constructed and seem like they would last long and wouldn't sag in the seat area.
  • The outdoor rug is a little too expensive, but I liked the design.  I will shop around for either 1 or 2 outdoor rugs OR I might just reuse the two that I already have in the Sunroom.  I'm not certain what I want to do yet.  I'm not in love with the ones I have.  They have palm leaves on them and are beige.  {you can see the pattern in the picture below}
  • As for the cushions, they-are-gorgeous-in-person!!!  Let's get a closer look at the cushion design.  They have a very luxurious look to them.  Though I'm sure I could find something similar at HomeGoods for a lot less.

  • The hanging lanterns are just too cute.  I would hang them in one of the corners.  Probably the corner that I can see from our Living Room, so I could enjoy them year round.
  • The table & chairs are really cute, but I'm not sure whether I want white or a dark brown color.  We will see what I find.  Hopefully something I can repurpose to keep costs down.
  • The flooring is a vinyl water resistant plank look by TrafficMaster Allure.  We used it in our Laundry Room and I think we might use it in the Sunroom as well.  The room might not always be 100% waterproof, so this would be a good flooring to put down so we can close up the gaps in the wood deck flooring that is there now.  We have some work to do to close up gaps in the flooring and on the walls, but I think we will be good once we are done with the room.  We could even buy a small heater for the room and get more use out of it in the late Fall or even when family is over for Christmas.  ;)

Here is the ceramic stool that I already bought from HomeGoods a few weeks ago and lives in the Sunroom already and I only paid $35 for it, so I have already saved myself some money from what I had showed you in the Mood Board.
You can check out my first post ever on my blog to see more ideas for sunrooms or outdoor spaces.  Link.

So there you have it our Mood Board or Inspirational Eye Candy for our Sunroom.  Anyone redecorating their Sunroom, porch or outdoor space?  Let's here about it....leave a link in the comment section if you want.  I would love to see what others are doing to make their outdoor spaces more like home.

Thanks for stopping by everyone! Have a great day! I would love to hear your comments, so please leave one if you want. I love sharing and inspiring others, but I also love feed back and sharing of others ideas and thoughts. :)

The Outdoor Series - The Big Reveal

So today is finally the Big Reveal day and there are lots of pictures, so get your cup of coffee or tea and sit back and relax.  It only took the contractor 2 weeks to finish this paver/cement project and transform our property, but it took us 3 years to get to this point.  It was well worth the wait.

I'm going to take you through all the changes that happened over the 2 week period with this project, from Demo, to pavers, to sod, to the handrails and the complete after.  I hope you have a little while to watch the changes that happened at our place.

Here is basically what our property looked like before we started this project.  This is not to scale, but I hope it gives you more of an idea of the property and what changed.
"Property Before"

And this is what the property looks like afterwards.  Well not with the curves in certain areas, because it just was not that easy for me to draw the curves of the backyard patio, but I hope you get the idea of what a big project this was for us.
"Property After"

Just a reminder of how the yard was before, here are a couple of ugly before pictures.

WOW that yard was really broken up into different areas and not in a good way.  I completely hated this yard, even when the pool was there.  Too much ugly decking, too much pool and not enough grass....oh wait there was no grass in the backyard.  It just didn't feel like our home because we really couldn't change it that much to make an impact....until now. ;)

Here the demo has begone on the deck.  We also had new stairs put in...well the beginning of new stairs being put in.  The supports had to be put in before the pavers were laid in place, then they finished the stairs.  The old staircase was in pretty bad shape.  Lot's of wood that needed to be replaced, sanded & painted or stained.  But in the end it just didn't seem worth piecing it together.  This way we knew we had new stairs and they were going to hold up over time.  The stairs go up to our Sunroom.

Do you see all the toys and garbage that was found under the deck?  We have no idea how they got it there....the previous owners that is.

Here is where are gas supply comes into the house.  The Town told us because it is technically a driveway, we had to have a steel pole filled with cement installed so that a car could not hit it.  So we painted it gray and we tried to hide it with trellis planters, but our contractor had a better idea.  See the spray paint on the ground, that is where the wall & pier would go.  Make a half wall with a lamp pier to cover up the pole.  NICE!!!  Awesome contractor, plus of course he got more money out of us that way, but in the end we were the happy home owners.

Now here is the backyard with the pavers down!!!  I didn't want to add all of the during pictures because there are already so many pictures.  They had just finished the backyard and wet everything down so it will look lighter and darker in some pictures.  We love it!!!  The contractor did an amazing job.

So this is where the ugly decking used to be.  Now the patio is out further then the decking was, so we have more room for patio furniture and to have great gatherings.

We have to paint these black poles white.  Well we actually want to put PVC material around them and square them off so they look like columns more and not like ugly black metal poles.

They were able to go right up to this garden bed, which was perfect, because there is a gate there to the left.

This is our driveway side of the backyard.  We can pull 4 cars total into the driveway now, three up front & one behind the gates in the backyard.  Bascially the end that I'm standing at taking the picture is where we have a gazebo now.  Pictures below.

This is a close up of the circle that is in the picture above.  We had to break up all the lighter gray pavers, so we went with a circle here and we did something else up front in the driveway as well to break things up.

Close up of all of the pavers.

This is our back door stoop.  We wanted it to be a platform step, not just a 12 inch deep step.  We didn't want anyone just triping out the door, so the platform was better for our home.  They did a great job designing it.  We really didn't know how they were going to do it, but we love how it came out.

We had a landscaper come in and take up all the old grass on the whole property after the paver contractor was done.  He leveled out the whole property for us and then laid sod.  We wern't going to do sod to save money, but we started this project in mid May and we really wouldn't have had grass until the following season, so we just went for the sod.  In this two week period of time we actually decided on sod & a sprinkler system to be installed.  Thank god our paver contractor was so good to us.  He went out and bought the PVC pipes we would need to run the sprinkler system to go under the pavers.  Plus he came up with the idea to run our gutter drain pipes under the pavers and up into the grass.  It's a cool system that just pops up when it rains and closes when it's not raining.  We love it.  Well worth all the extra money we had to spend.

{backyard}
{backyard}
{front yard}

The only cement on the property is the sidewalk and the apron of the driveway.

Here are the stairs almost done.

Finished!!!  We love how it turned out.

Here is the pier & half wall to sort of hid & protect our gas supply.  But most of all to hide that ugly pole.

Here it is all finished off with the light and plants to hide the meter more.  We couldn't build the half wall any higher because they have to be able to read the meter.  And the light is great for parties.

Here is the front yard.  Our front stoop....oh how we love you.  We hated walking up the old cement cracked stoop with rusty wrought iron handrails that were broken on one side.  The contractor went right over our old stoop.  No demo which saved us money.  These steps are higher now and you just walk right into the front entrance instead of stepping into the front entrance.  It's steeper then the old one, but we are used to it now.  It's also about a foot wider because of the large bricks they used.  No worries we installed handrails.

Front walkway & double, well really triple driveway because we can park three cars wide in our driveway if we want.

Side of house walkway.  That small stoop is my Mom's entrance to her apartment. You can see in this picture how the gutters go into the pavers and the PVC pipe goes under the walkway and up into the grass on the other side.  You can see the little green cap in the grass area on the left of the picture.

We went with fans at the end of the driveway to break up the all gray area in the middle.  We love how it turned out.

View from top of stoop.  You can see more of the details of the driveway.

Speaking of the top of the stoop, this is what the landing of the stoop looks like.

Here are the handrails installed.  We went with PVC rails.  We love it.  Never have to worry about them again for the life of the house probably.  We just went with simple spindles, because that what worked best with our homes style.

We added potted planters to the stoop to add more color.

The sod is down.  New sod really finishes off a yard.  This is the view from across the street.  It's the only way to get the whole house and property into the shot. ;)

View from on top of the stairs in the backyard.

As you can see from this picture we still have some other projects to do, like paint the wood beams that support the Sunroom.  We already painted the stairs.  Now they blend in with the house and yard better.  We really didn't want to leave it a stained wood color.  So we used Cabot stain which is really a solid paint color that we used.  Cabot has stains that are the thickness of paint, actually thicker.  This was really thick paint and went on really nicely.  We don't really regret painting it.  Hopefully it lasts for a long time.  It took two days to paint all the stairs and rails.  We went with white on the rails & gray on the steps.

We also need to put some trim pieces at the bottom of the support poles for the stairs.  See how it isn't finished off.  We bought PVC brick moulding for the trim.  I can't wait for hubby to cut it & install it.  It will really finish the stairs off nicely.  More on that once the project gets started. ;)

You can see from this picture how the stairs blend in since they are painted.

I need to add a rug, some pop of color with pillows & maybe a lantern or two to the gazebo area.

Here are some of the details in the backyard.  Everything is so full and in bloom now...love it!!!

Here is our little water feature.  They sell a Fountain in a container at Home Depot.  We bought it last year.  It comes in a 5 gallon container.  The rocks, the pump & the container just go into a bigger planter and you have a water feature.  I bought the planter at HomeGoods for $35 last year.

Our Daylilies.

Here is all the paver information:  Pavers are Nicolock Holland Stone. Outer border is Charcoal, red border is Bayberry Blend and center pavers are Granite City Blend. The stoop bullnose is Nicolock Charcoal, but the risers and the sides of the stoop are Cambridge Onyx Natural. The light pier & small wall are also Cambridge Onyx Natural. Nicolock also has these same bricks, but they weren't available for our project so we went with Cambridge.

We love all the choices we made.  If you have any questions at all, either email me or comment on this post.  I would be happy to answer your questions and try to help.
