A Little Switch-a-roo

After I had organized under the bathroom sink {back in May 2011} it was time to make a little bit of a switch-a-roo with what I used to organize it in the first place.  It just wasn't working out.  We used the baskets every day and they were making a mess.  Sometimes you just don't think about what a basket is made out of when you buy it.  Will it work well, will it stay together well.  I think these baskets are a banana leaf type of material and it tends to flake off easily.  So if it's something you are going to use everyday, you might want a different material.  Wicker stands up longer and plastic or metal even better.  I know I will think first before I buy the banana leaf baskets again.

So when I went to HomeGoods the other day, {I know you are all shocked that I went to HomeGoods to look for something...haha}, I picked up some new metal mess looking baskets.

Let's check out some of the befores.  See the flakes all over the cabinet floor.  Drove me nuts every time I opened the cabinet doors.  I had to find something else to use.

Well this is what I found at HomeGoods.  I love them.  This one is actually labeled for CD storage, but I knew what it was going to hold instead...my hubbies shaver stuff.  {$4.99}

And this piece also for the hubby.  Yup it has magnets on it so you can stick it up somewhere for office supplies I believe this one was categorized as.  Nope, not for me, I just stuck it to the CD holder and now all of my hubbies stuff fits in there so well and no mess at all.  {$3.99}

Then I also found this piece which was perfect to fit my hair dryer and some other things of mine.  {$6.99}

So here is the "after".  I kept one of the other baskets {the one behind the paper towels because we don't use it all that much}.  Otherwise everything else fits perfectly in the wire baskets.  The funny thing was I forgot that I already had one wire drawer storage piece under there, so it was a happy thing in the end that it all matched.  Ok, one is silver and the new ones are a pretty aqua color.  But I'm super happy with the end result.  Everything is where it needs to be now and it's actually easier to see everything.  It was hard to see inside of those dark baskets under the cabinet.

See how nice things are now.  You can see where everything is and everything has a place.  Me likey!!!  ;)  So for basically $16, I'm very happy with the end result.

And you might have recognized where I moved those older baskets to.  Check out this post for all the details.  We will see what kind of a mess they make in the linen closet.  If I don't keep them, I will garage sale them this Spring/Summer and buy something else for the linen closet.

So has anyone else made a switch-a-roo like this one?  Were you happy with the switch?  Did you switch it back and buy something else?  Did you get rid of it all together?  Would love to hear about it.  Share it with all of us in the comments area.  I'm sure others would like to know what kind of switch you did and if it worked out or not.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :)

Color Changes Everything - Part 1

I love Ikea for so many reasons and they just added one more reason {in my book} to love them.  They took the same room with white furniture and added different linen's and decor to the room to show you how it can look.  LOVE IT!!!

Watch how they change the linen's, add art, add plants, change pillows, change throws, change curtains and change out rugs.

Blank Slate

Added white with a little bit of black in the art.

Black & White

Mostly white with blue linen's

Browns

Greens

Purples
{see how the room became warmer and deeper with these richer colors}

Reds

Traditional Reds
{that is what they called it}

So what does everyone think?  Love how a neutral room can turn into a different feeling with just changing the colors in the room?

So if your furniture and wall colors are neutral you can just change your linen's, pillows, throws & curtains for a fraction of the price.  Now you don't have to buy new paint for the walls or out grow your furniture.  You can just make it feel different by changing the pop of color in your decor.  Smart idea.  Saves lots of money in the end.  I even just switch pillows, throws, curtains and decor around the house to make rooms feel different for me.  Makes you feel like you have something new, but you don't and you didn't even spend any money.  Try different ways to use that piece of decor and pair it with different things when you move it to another room.  Maybe even paint decor you don't love the color of anymore and now you have something new.  Reusing and repurposing are awesome ways to get new looks in your home.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :)

Inspirational Eye Candy - Gray Dining Rooms

I have been really lovin' gray anything lately.  All the awesome shades of gray or even gray/mushroom are just so hot right now.  BUT you can't go wrong with gray because it is a neutral.  It goes with any color you want to put it with.  Gray can be cool or warm.  I really enjoy it.  Right now I'm trying to find the perfect color gray for my home, for our Great Room, so I was completely draw to all of this gray eye candy.  I also figured I would just stick to Dining Rooms today.  But I have plenty of eye candy for other rooms too, so stay tuned for those posts.  :)

I love how bright this room is.  Awesome use of a mirror to reflect more light around the room.  Love the use of the different chairs as well.  Those are awesome looking head chairs.  Simple & elegant.

Soap Scum Be Gone!!!

I hate soap scum in my bathroom....I hate having to clean it, but Shaklee Basic H2 helped me clean our glass shower doors.  Yup these are my real shower doors....all dirty and everything.  Embarrassing, but I was just keepin' it real for you when it comes to cleaning and what Shaklee can do with natural products!!!  No chemicals, no fumes, just clean shower doors in the end.

After a few rounds of trying to get the soap scum off....yes I hadn't cleaned them in awhile because that is how much I hate cleaning them.  I would choke from the fumes of the products I was using to clean the bathroom.  Even opening the window didn't help that much.  I have allergies and slight asthma.  And I was using Method.  I must tell you that the Method bathroom cleaner did NOT work that well at all.  I used Shaklee H2 Degreaser solution.  I applied it 2-3 times to get all of the soap scum off and now look how well you can see through the glass shower doors.  Nice right?

Does anyone else hate cleaning their glass shower doors?  How do you clean yours?  Are you ready for a healthier cleaner life?  If yes, then try Shaklee.  A lot goes a loooonnnnggggg way for the price.  Check out this post for more information on Shaklee.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :)

So if you would like to stop cleaning with harm chemicals, you can order some Shaklee products by clicking on this button below. If you have any questions let me know.

Sometimes You Just Have to Purge

Over this three day weekend, I started working on some of my Home Goals for 2012.  I decided to start with our linen closet.  It was a mess and I just couldn't take it anymore.  I knew I had to purge some of the stuff because we just don't use it all.  For some reason I kept saying to myself "oh we will use that."  But that never came.  We have been married for 5.5 years now and we still haven't used half of the stuff.  Way too many sheet sets, way to many towels.

Let's take a look at what I was dealing with so you can understand my problem.  Two shelves for towels and two shelves for sheets.  One other bit of information, it's just me and my hubby right now....we don't need this much.  And the sheets and towels were sharing shelves.  Things just got out of hand.

And there was also some table linen's in between sheets.  Out-of-control!!!  We also use this closet for our plastic bags and paper recycling {white bin on floor}

Top shelf just has a bunch of different things that don't really have a home else where right now.

I emptied the closet.  Some of the shelf paper was coming down.  But I took care of that with some double sided tape.  Much better.  I also rearranged the top shelf.

The floor area was also cleaned and organized better.

Here is where all of the stuff went so that I could go through it all.  I know it's hard to believe that ALL of this was in that little closet.  Ca-razy!!!  Yup that is a queen size bed and it almost took up the whole bed.  YIKES!!!

I'm soooo excited to show you the after pictures.  Now I feel more calm when I open this door.  Everything has it's own place.  I will be bringing a lot of stuff to Good Will or Salvation Army very soon.  I rolled, I folder & I added some baskets.  Now I can see where everything is.  Very good feeling.

Now onto the next closet.  Not sure which one yet, but I have to organize another one.  It just feels to rewarding not to do another one.

I do have some other ideas for the linen closet though.  I would love to repaint the inside a color and even redo the shelves in some way.  This is how the closet basically was when we bought the house.  We painted it all white and then I put some shelf paper and called it a day.  Now with all of the pretty stuff on the internet and Pinterest that I have found, I want more...just not sure when we will get to the upgrading.

What my linen closet could look like all in white.  I really like it.  Nice and clean looking.  Now I'm torn if I should just redo the inside in a semi-gloss white or a color.

So has anyone organized their linen closet recently?  Organize another closet in your home?  Let's hear about it.  Leave a comment and/or leave a link to your post and let everyone see what you did.  I love me some inspiration, so let's have it!!!

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :)
